Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim was behind the wheel of a car that hit a pedestrian on a highway, killing the man, the Onondaga County (New York) District Attorney told WSYR on Thursday.

The man in his 30s had been in a car with four others near Thompson Road in Syracuse when their vehicle crashed for unknown reasons, said a source familiar with the investigation.

The man at some point got out of his vehicle, the source said.

That’s when Boeheim drove by and struck the pedestrian, the source said.

Boeheim was given a routine blood-alcohol content test and had no alcohol in his system: .00 BAC, the source added. He was interviewed by police and released.

Friends and family tell Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard that Boeheim does not drink alcohol. Boeheim says he will issue a statement shortly.
