Alabama head coach Nick Saban addressed the news that former Maryland head coach D.J. Durkin was at Bama’s facility this week meeting with coaches and watching tape.

According to Saban, the disgraced Durkin is not going to be joining the Crimson Tide coaching staff, he was simply there from a “professional development standpoint.”

In a statement released by the university, Saban said: “DJ Durkin is spending a few days with our staff in Tuscaloosa from a professional development standpoint. He has not been hired in any capacity at the University of Alabama. He is simply observing our operation as many other coaches have done through the years.”

Sources told ESPN that Durkin will not accompany Alabama to the Capital One Orange Bowl for its College Football Playoff semifinal matchup against Oklahoma on Dec. 29.

Does Durkin need any professional development at this point?  He was fired after all from Maryland after an investigation into the the death of Jordan McNair, who died during offseason workouts last spring.

Is Durkin ever going to coach at the college level again?
