On Friday news that Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss a portion of the 2019 season couldn't have come at worse time for him. According to GM Brian Cashman, Gregorius had a partial tear in the elbow when they acquired him.
The Yankees believe he aggravated his elbow during Game 2.
Unfortunately the injury might mean that Gregorius has played his last game for the Yankees. He will become a free agent after the World Series and miss part of the 2019 season. Not to mention, Manny Machado will be hitting the market.
It might be the perfect timing for the Yankees to land Machado and have him move pack to playing shortstop full-time.
