Cubs manager Joe Maddon was asked about the chances his team ends up signing free agent Bryce Harper.  He let it be known that it wasn’t going to happen.

Maddon called the chances of the Cubs signing Harper “impossible” and followed that up by saying that “it’s not going to happen.”

The Cubs have been considered one of the teams that could enter the Bryce Harper sweepstakes at some point, given his ties to Kris Bryant. It sounds like Chicago is officially out of the running.

The sweepstakes has turned more into a one team race with the Phillies taking a considerable step forward ahead of any other team.  At this point it would be shocking if he wasn’t in Philadelphia next season.
