Manny Machado is sitting on an eight-year offer from the Chicago White Sox and is still engaged with the Philadelphia Phillies, while their pursuit of Bryce Harper grew stronger with an in-person meeting in Las Vegas over the weekend, league sources told ESPN.
The proposed deal is worth $250 million, according to Hector Gomez of Z101 Digital's sources.
The White Sox have been one of the most aggressive suitors for Machado's services this winter.
And while the team has denied any connection, they've added Yonder Alonso and Jon Jay, both of whom are close to Machado off the field.
Both Machado and fellow free agent Bryce Harper are expected to land massive, long-term contracts. Machado is a four-time All-Star and has a career slash line of .282/.335/.487 with 175 home runs, 211 doubles, and 53 stolen bases in 926 games.
