Cubs catcher Willson Contreras stood and watched a ball that he thought was a home run.  Only one problem, he isn’t as strong as he thinks he is and the ball didn’t go over the fence.

Once he realized it wasn’t going over the fence, Contreras then had to hustle and slide in headfirst to make it to second base.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon wasn’t happy about the lack of hustle and after the game said it would be addressed, via NBC Sports:

“Horrible,” the Cubs skipper said. “I didn’t like that at all. Not at all. And that will be addressed. The whole team didn’t like that.”

Maddon went back to that play two other times in his postgame press conference, reiterating it will be addressed with Contreras and saying he was happy with his team’s effort in the loss “outside of the play by Willson.”

The Cubs lost the game 2-1, but they’re still enjoying a 2.5 game lead in the NL Central.  If you stand and watch a ball after you hit it and it doesn’t go over the fence, just jog back into the dugout and take yourself out of the game.
