Consolation prize

Despite being suspended by the NFL, the New England Patriots plan to give wide receiver Josh Gordon a Super Bowl ring, according to an ESPN report.

The gift of a Super Bowl ring is no small gesture.

The Patriots' rings from Super Bowl LI in 2017 were made of white gold and had more than 280 diamonds.

The team's rings from 2015 were valued at $36,500 apiece.

Gordon was suspended indefinitely by the league in December for violating terms of his conditional reinstatement under the league policy for substance abuse.

Moments before that suspension was first reported, Gordon had announced he would be "stepping away from the football field" to focus on having "a better grasp on things mentally."

The 27-year-old Gordon was acquired by the Patriots from the Browns on Sept. 17 in exchange for a fifth-round draft choice.

He was celebrating via Social Media after the Pats Superbowl win.

He also updated his IG after they won.

Gordon was slowed earlier this season by a hamstring injury, but accumulated 40 receptions for 720 yards in 11 games with New England.

He really loves the Patriots.
