During the Lightning’s 3-2 win over the Golden Knights on Friday night in Las Vegas, Golden Knights enforcer Ryan Reaves sent Tampa Bay’s Victor Hedman to the locker room with a huge open-ice hit.

Hedman, who did not return to the game, helicoptered into the boards headfirst.  He popped up immediately following the hit, but went straight for the locker room and was limping once he left the ice.

The NHL, much like the NFL, has been cutting down on hitting to help protect the players from head injuries.  But you will still see some pretty vicious hits handed out that are well within the rules.
