Jonathan Kuminga agreed to a two-year, $13-million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, his agent told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
His deal with the Timberwolves includes a player option, adds Charania.
Kuminga chose Minnesota over offers from the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, and Portland Trail Blazers, sources told Charania.
The Lakers apparently offered Kuminga more than $12 million annually over three years, but the former No. 7 overall pick opted for a shorter deal and more control over his future, Charania reports.
Kuminga and the Cleveland Cavaliers also reportedly had mutual interest earlier in the offseason.
The Timberwolves will need to make a roster move to fit Kuminga’s $6.1-million salary under the second apron, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
Kuminga hit the market this summer after the Atlanta Hawks declined his $24.3-million team option for 2026-27. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 12.2 points, 5.6 boards, and 2.3 assists over 36 combined appearances with the Hawks and Golden State Warriors last season.
