Albert Haynesworth’s Plea for a Kidney Donor Has Flooded Vanderbilt University Medical Center With Calls

Former NFL player Albert Haynesworth took to Instagram on Wednesday night to plea for a kidney donor after revealing his kidneys had failed. 

The 38-year-old included a phone number in his plea and as a result Vanderbilt University’s Medical Center has been flooded with over 1,000 calls.

Since Haynesworth’s post, Vanderbilt University Medical Center has received more than 1,000 “calls and offers for organ donation from well-wishers and individuals expressing interest,” chief communications officer John Howser said in a statement.

To be considered a donor, individuals must meet specific physical stipulations and other requirements, including the ability to travel to and remain in the Nashville area for a period of time.

That’s great news for Haynesworth.  Hopefully one of the over 1,000 people who called the hospital are a match for a donation.
