The Arizona Cardinals are placing quarterback Kyler Murray on injured reserve because of his foot injury, meaning he’ll miss at least the next four games, head coach Jonathan Gannon announced Wednesday.
“Feel like that’s the best thing for him and for us,” Gannon said.
He added, “He’s not healthy enough to play. He needs to get healthy so he can get back to playing football, so that’s what we’re doing.”
Jacoby Brissett, already named Arizona’s starting quarterback Tuesday, will now get an extended look as the team’s signal-caller.
Murray had started the first five games of the season before coming down with a foot injury. However, his production failed to match expectations, as he threw for six touchdowns against three interceptions while the team yielded a 2-3 record.
The Cardinals’ offense has looked revitalized of late under Brissett. The 32-year-old led Arizona to a 27-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Monday and accounted for three touchdowns, including one on the ground. He’s thrown for six passing scores to just one interception across three starts.
The 3-5 Cardinals, who sit in last place in the NFC West, will take on the 6-2 Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
