All-Star guard D’Angelo Russell said he wasn’t fazed by the “business side” of potentially being a one-year fill-in player for the Golden State Warriors and that he’s “excited” to play alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

Did the Golden State Warriors acquire Russell just to eventually trade him as an asset? Russell had this to say.

Via Logan Murdock of NBC Sports Bay Area:

“That’s the business of it. It is what it is,” Russell said. “You just put yourself in a position to go somewhere a long period of time. It may not be what it is and that’s the business. I’ve come to a realization of that, and I understand that. So every situation I’m in, I know the business side of it. We’ll see. I can’t predict it.”

If he stays, he’ll be ready.

“Honestly, I’m excited,” Russell said. “I’m excited more than anything. I think it’s a huge opportunity just to take another step and learn from a good group of guys that have done — and marked their way in this league, so I’m super excited.

“You got guys that can shoot, dribble and play-make for others. That’s a dangerous combo. And then a guy like (Curry) that gets hot anytime throughout the game, it’s something that gives you an advantage throughout a game.”

Russell has already seen the business side of the NBA.

The Lakers drafted him No. 2 overall and talked about building around him. Two years later, they replaced him with Lonzo Ball and traded Russell to Brooklyn while criticizing his leadership.

Now he’s once again in demand.

I don’t see him being a long term fit in Golden State, but you never know.
