Doc Rivers Sets the Record Straight on Tim Duncan Almost Leaving the Spurs for the Magic

Tim Duncan was close to leaving the Spurs for the Magic back in 2000.  How close has been up for discussion for many years now.  According to rumors, the reason Duncan returned to San Antonio was his family couldn’t travel with him on road trips.

Clippers head coach Doc Rivers, who was the Magic head coach back in 2000, denies that rumor.  He set the record straight on the #NBATogether show with Ernie Johnson.

According to Rivers, Duncan was all set to sign with the Magic and join Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady.  He told Rivers that he wanted to meet with Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich one last time before leaving for Orlando.
