During the fall, our skin is exposed to the negative effects of aggressive weather and this can greatly affect its condition. As each season wears some peculiarities, it is imperative that with these changes we change the routine of nourishing the skin of both face and body. While this year’s main goal was to protect the skin from UV radiation, during the fall we do not have to focus so much on UV protection (though we shouldn’t forget it) as some other things. This is why masks that hydrate and restore moisture to skin cells (whether they are sheet masks or regular ones) are a must. You can also make homemade variants, depending on what suits you best. And of course, do not forget to take enough water because that is the most important step in any skincare. Of course, you could also consider caring for your skin from the inside out, perhaps looking at a hydration supplement for the ultimate hydration and mineral replenishment. During the fall and winter, use rich and oily creams. Also use face serums, which you should apply before the cream.

1. Hydration, hydration, HYDRATION

During the autumn days, the main focus of your care should be on hydration, as this is what your skin will need most. With the onset of cold weather, our skin is the first to become dry. If you don’t know how to tell if you are dehydrated, always check for dryness. It causes the sebaceous glands to begin actively producing oily sebum, and an unpleasant rash and redness to appear on the skin. To avoid the consequences, it is essential that you actively hydrate your skin before the cold season begins.

This is why masks that hydrate and restore moisture to skin cells (whether they are sheet masks or regular ones) are a must. You can also make homemade variants, depending on what suits you best. And of course, do not forget to take enough water because that is the most important step in any skincare. During the fall and winter, use rich and oily creams. Also use face serums, which you should apply before the cream.

2. Exfoliation

Exfoliation is one of the must-have steps in autumn facial care. Your summer tan is now slowly disappearing and to avoid dark spots and uneven complexion due to changes in skin layers, exfoliation is necessary not only for the face but also for the whole body. It will remove layers of dead cells that have accumulated over the summer and help your skin recover more quickly after sunbathing.

Do not use coarse scrubs and brushes: use an acid tonic or a natural ingredients scrub. Another benefit of exfoliation is that it speeds up circulation. When it is cold outside, the blood vessels constrict, and exfoliation encourages blood flow. Reduced blood flow to the facial skin makes the skin “dull” and colorless.

3. Change your face cleanser and toner

As the skin becomes sweatier during the summer it is necessary to use more aggressive facial cleansers. But in the fall and winter, you should give the skin a slightly gentler approach. If you have noticed that your skin becomes dry after using a summer cleanser, you should switch to the less aggressive one.

During the autumn days when humidity is far lower than in the summer, we often encounter wind and lower temperatures, and therefore drier weather. Your toner or serum must be applied before the cream as it gives your skin extra hydration.

4. Change your face cream

During the summer, we sweat more, it is warmer outside and generally the humidity is higher, so it is recommended to use lighter creams, i.e. face creams that have more fluid texture with a base of water. In the fall when the weather is drier and colder we need richer care, and that is why you need to choose creams based on oils that will hydrate and nourish the skin. If you have oily skin type, you can continue using summer cream in the fall days, but at night use one with a richer and more nutritious texture.

During the autumn, you can safely use facial oils. It may sound weird, but natural oils (coconut, jojoba or olive) effectively fight clogged pores. The oil opens pores, softens dead skin particles and “pushes” them out of the pores. Besides, it prevents water loss.

5. Skincare at night

As the temperature slowly drops, you need to add something to your routine when it comes to skincare to prevent your skin from losing elasticity and becoming dry. After washing your face, you should apply a cream or serum containing alpha hydroxyl acid and retinol – two ingredients that help get rid of dead cells and promote skin renewal. If you use a cream or serum before bedtime, when you are least exposed to external factors, you give your skin time to rest and nourish.
