Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath claims he hasn’t bad a drink since his drunken interview with Suzy Kolber. During the interview “Broadway Joe” told Kolber he wanted to kiss her in front of a national tv audience.
Namath now calls the incident a “blessing in disguise.” He was finally able to conquer his demons because of it.
Via ESPN:
“I saw it as a blessing in disguise,” says Namath, who admitted to being drunk during the interview. “I had embarrassed my friends and family and could not escape that feeling. I haven’t had a drink since.
“That shame is where I found my strength to deal with the addiction. With the help of my recovery, I learned that I had used my divorce as an excuse to go back to drinking. That knowledge made me a stronger individual.”
It’s good to hear that Namath was able to finally stop drinking. We’re glad this encounter with Kolber took place before that happened.
It’s an all-time video and it validates Namath’s Hall of Fame induction, because his numbers alone definitely aren’t enough.
