Mariners centerfielder Mallex Smith turned a warning track fly ball into a home run when the ball bounced off of his glove and went over the fence.  Padres catcher Austin Hedges was the beneficiary of Smith’s mistake and was credited with a two-run home run.

Mallex, what a name, didn’t do his pitcher any favors on the play, but he can still expect a gift to be sent his way.  Hedges has to send him a nice gift card or bottle of wine or something.  It’s not everyday that you get an assist by an outfielder on one of your home runs.

It was a really tough break for Mallex.  The Padres won the game 6-3.
