The New York Mets announced on Tuesday that they have hired ESPN baseball analyst Jessica Mendoza.  She will serve as an adviser to General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen.

In addition to being an ESPN baseball analyst for the past three years, Mendoza was a four-time First Team All-American outfielder at Stanford.  She was also a member of the US women’s national softball team from 2004-2010.

Mendoza won’t be the first ESPN employee to serve as an adviser to an MLB team.  Alex Rodriguez is a special adviser with the New York Yankees.

For Van Wagenen’s sake let’s hope she’s able to control all the nervous laughing she likes to do.  It can be a little annoying.
