The Mets sent ace Jacob deGrom back to New York to have an MRI on his sore elbow.  In their announcement, the team revealed that the right-hander has been dealing with an illness that prevented him from doing his normal between starts routine.

The team also says the evaluation on deGrom’s sore arm is out of an abundance of caution, pointing out that the soreness has developed in the last 24 hours.

The Mets are certainly trying to downplay deGrom’s sore elbow.  But a trip to the DL with this early in the season with a sore arm is never a good sign.

If deGrom goes down with an injury, the Mets hopes might go down with him.
