The Colorado Rockies will finally be paying off one of the biggest free agency mistakes in MLB history this weekend.

On Saturday, they will be making the final payment of $1.9 million, plus three percent interest, to former pitcher Mike Hampton.  He has been receiving this payment every year since 2009.

Hampton signed a then record eight year, $161 million contract prior to the 2001 season and pitched only two seasons for the Rockies.

Colorado was not kind to Hampton, he left with a 21-28 record and a 5.75 ERA while giving up 55 homers.

The curse of Mike Hampton might finally be lifted in Colorado.  It’s time for sustained success for the Rockies franchise.
