Veteran Wil Myers was heard blasting Padres manager Andy Green on his teammate Carlos Asuaje’s Fortnite livestream last week.  He was complaining about the fact that the manager had scheduled cutoff and relay defensive drills in September.

Via MLB.com:

“The Padres are doing cutoff and relays tomorrow at 3 o’clock — in September, dude,” Myers is heard saying.

He continued: “Oh my god. It’s so miserable, man. It’s insane. Andy could not be any worse than he is right now.”

“Dude,” Asuaje interjects, “I’m streaming this.”

This is how the worst team in the National League does things.  The manager schedules spring training drills in September and a veteran complains about it to his teammates.  It’s the perfect formula to go 30 games under .500.

Myers was called into Green’s office and later apologized for his comments.

“I love Andy, and I love playing for him,” Myers said. “He’s a guy that has taught me a lot in this game. At times, you get into a mood where you get frustrated, no matter what’s going on with a team or individually, and you say some things you shouldn’t say in a conversation that you think’s private. The reality is, now we’re in 2018. … I’m incredibly sorry, obviously to Andy, to my teammates, to the fans. This is a distraction we don’t need.”

Green might have bought it, but we’re not.  It is a joke that you’re doing spring training drills in September and it is also a joke that the Padres are still on the Major League level.  Time to send the organization down to the minors.
