Selected third overall by Dallas in June’s NBA draft, the Slovenian teenager is one of 10 rookies in NBA history to average at least 18 points, six rebounds and four assists, a group that includes Elgin Baylor, Oscar Robertson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan and Grant Hill.

Pretty great company.

Being 19 and away from home can’t be easy.

According to this article, he plans on playing for Real Madrid once he’s done with the NBA.

Luka Doncic spoke with the Spanish radio station Cope regarding the possibility of returning to Real Madrid, if he decided to leave the NBA.“I always say I really miss the people from Madrid because it’s true. All the players, physios, the staff, coaches. They’ve been really nice with me. So, when this is οver, I’ll probably go back to Madrid,” said Doncic. The young Slovenian also referred to his injury (right hip strain), mentioning it is not so serious and he will return to action soon. The Dallas Mavericks will face the Portland Trail Blazers at the American Airlines Center on Tuesday.

Doncic actually hails from Slovenia, but Madrid has been his home since he was 13 years old. He played professionally there before he decided to enter the NBA draft.

All of his friends are there.

I’m pretty sure it will get easier for him once he gets to know more people in Dallas. Until then, expect him to be missing his crew.
