The NBA's next big star

The Mavs submitted a trademark application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for "The Matador".

This is the  nickname player development coach Mike Procopio gave Doncic on Dec. 28th, according to Josh Gerben of Gerben Law Firm.

Gerben added that the application didn't include written consent from Doncic for the Mavs to register his nickname, something the USPTO will require.

Doncic better get his lawyers on this.

If he ends up playing for another team down the road, his nickname will stay with the Mavs.
