A distant relative of Tyrann Mathieu is accused of attempting to extort millions from the NFL star by threatening to go to media with sexual assault accusations and telling his family members that he would kill them.

Via WDSU.com:

According to a federal affidavit reviewed by WDSU Investigates, Geourvon Sears, a distant relative of Mathieu, is accused of telephoning and texting Mathieu where he threatened to go to the media with allegations of sexual misconduct.

The affidavit alleges that Sears told Mathieu he would approach the media if he didn’t pay him.

Mathieu was in New Orleans over the weekend holding a charity event. At the same time, court records show that FBI and federal agents were zeroing in on Sears.

Federal investigators say that one month ago around April 20, Sears called Mathieu in Kansas City and said that he needed “$1.5 million deposited into his account.”

Mathieu is only identified as “TM’ in court documents. Sears lawyer confirmed that the victim listed as TM is Mathieu.

In another text to Mathieu, Sears allegedly told him, “$5 million by Friday, I’m done talking, emailing TMZ now.”

Mathieu’s agent said the matter is a “very private and personal family issue.”

“He’s dealing with a family member who is dealing with a mental health issue,” said Denise White, EAG Sports Representative of Mathieu. “Tyrann is fine. His family is fine. They are getting through.”

Both the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL officially offered “no comment” on the case.

Never a dull moment in the NFL offseason.
