Shortly after he threw his running back under the bus, Philip Rivers did an about face.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers went on Sirius XM NFL Radio and discussed both his and running back Melvin Gordon’s ongoing contract negotiations.

He expressed that his expectation and hope is to remain with the team next season.

And while he seemed willing to get a deal done before the season, he seemed untroubled by the possibility of playing the season out and revisiting contract talks afterward.

Asked if waiting to sign an extension would leave more money available for “a running back,” Rivers responded, “If it does, awesome.” He then expanded by praising Gordon and what the star running back brings to the team.
