The Pittsburgh Pirates placed catcher Francisco Cervelli back on the 7 day concussion disabled list before Saturday’s doubleheader against the Brewers.  The 32 year old’s concussion like symptoms have returned.

Cervelli was originally placed on the concussion disabled list back on June 22 due to foul balls off of his mask.  He’s had a total of four recorded concussions in his career, including three in the past year and a half.

This latest setback has put Cervelli’s career behind the plate in jeopardy.  He’s already started taking groundballs at first base.

The Pirates want his bat in the lineup as he’s already topped his career high in homers with nine and he’s on pace to set a career high in RBIs too.
