Boston Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck left Friday’s game after taking a line drive off his face in the fifth inning against the New York Yankees.

Houck walked off the field under his own power but had a towel over his face:

The Red Sox announced that Houck sustained a facial contusion, according to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.

Manager Alex Cora said postgame the 26-year-old is being examined at the hospital but never lost consciousness, per Christopher Smith of MassLive.

Houck owns a 5.05 ERA with 1.26 WHIP over 67 2/3 innings (13 starts) this season.
