The Los Angeles Lakers fear that LeBron James is likely to miss an extended period after sustaining a right foot injury during Sunday’s comeback win against the Dallas Mavericks, sources told The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

James is expected to have multiple opinions on the ailment, but the Lakers are bracing for a multiple-week absence, Charania adds.

James appeared to suffer the injury on a drive to the basket late in the third quarter but remained in the contest. The four-time Finals MVP was limping as he exited the arena postgame.

James appeared to be referencing the injury update on social media.

The 38-year-old was already ruled out of Tuesday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

James is averaging 29.5 points, 8.4 boards, and 6.9 assists across 47 appearances this season.

Los Angeles sits one game back of the New Orleans Pelicans for the final play-in tournament spot with 21 contests remaining. The Lakers are 5-9 this season with James out of the lineup.
