The Philadelphia Phillies agreed to a deal with right-hander David Robertson, a source told The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

The one-year deal is worth $16 million, prorated over an entire season. Robertson will earn more than $5 million, Jeff Passan of ESPN reports.

The Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers also showed interest in Robertson after he pitched well during a showcase in front of scouts Saturday, reports the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.

Robertson, 40, hasn’t pitched in the majors this season after making 68 appearances for the Texas Rangers in 2024. Last season, he authored a 3.00 ERA and 12.4 K/9 in 72 innings.

This is the veteran’s third stint with the Phillies during his 16-year career.

Philadelphia’s bullpen ranks 21st in the majors in FIP and 23rd in ERA.

Left-hander Jose Alvarado is unavailable to pitch for the Phillies until Aug. 19 after receiving an 80-game suspension following a positive test for a performance-enhancing substance.

Alvarado is not eligible to pitch in the postseason.
