A rub and tug on the heart.

After nine seasons in New England, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement on social media on Sunday.

“I will be retiring from the game of football today,” he said on Instagram.

Gronkowski’s fellow Patriots and players from around the league went online to post their congratulations, including Gronk’s employer Robert Kraft.

Clearly Gronk was well liked.

He played the game just like a kid in his very own backyard.

No doubt Canton will be calling.
