Russell Westbrook is the last remaining member of OKC’s big three. His former star teammates, James Harden and Kevin Durant, both left the Thunder before him and have enjoyed postseason success elsewhere.
Now it appears as if his time in Oklahoma City is coming to an end. After trading away Paul George, and attempting to trade him to the Raptors, the Thunder have reportedly talked to Westbrook about the possibility of a trade before the start of next season.
Via ESPN:
Oklahoma City All-Star guard Russell Westbrook and his agent, Thad Foucher, are engaged with Thunder general manager Sam Presti about the next steps of Westbrook’s career, including the possibility of a trade before the start of next season, league sources told ESPN.
The two sides have 11 years of history together, and both understand that the time has likely come to explore trade possibilities for Westbrook, league sources said.
The Thunder have apparently decided it is time for a rebuild. It only makes sense at this point to trade away Westbrook after moving Paul George, but the four years and $170 million left on his contract is going to limit the possible trade partners.
