New Orleans Saints Defensive end Alex Okafor was one sack short of getting a $400K bonus heading into final week of the season.
Instead of risking injury, the team rested him during Week 17 and paid that man his money
Saints DE Alex Okafor needed 5.0 sacks to earn a $400K incentive this season. He had 4.0 entering Week 17, but the Saints bought out the incentive, just paying Okafor the $400K instead, per source. Quality move by a top organization to reward a player who has become a key piece.

“The Saints have given me opportunities since I got here, and I’m just blessed and grateful that they still believe in me and are taking care of me the way they are,” Okafor said.
“After you tear an Achilles, I’ve seen so many instances where guys hit the free agent market and nobody is willing to give them a chance because they just don’t know what they’ll be the next year or when they’ll get them back throughout the season,” Okafor said. “… (New Orleans) believed in me, and we saw that in the contract this offseason.”
Okafor can opt out of the final year of his deal, becoming a free agent, but he declined to comment on his future with playoff games looming, saying, “we’re just trying to win a Super Bowl, and if we do that, everything will take care of itself.”
Really a great move by the Saints.
That’s how you get players to want to play for you.
