Reflecting on the nationwide weekend protests for George Floyd, Stephen A Smith’s usual loud ranting was replaced Monday with a soft-spoken monologue that ended ESPN’s “First Take.”

The emotion still came screaming out.

“It’s been a rough weekend,” Smith said. “It’s been a rough week.”

Smith is calling for change in the aftermath of Floyd, a black man, lying on the ground handcuffed suffocating to death as a white Minneapolis police officer rammed a knee into his neck for almost nine minutes.

He tweeted out a message, and like most tweets, the replies came flying in.

Some were not pleased about his previous encounter with the controversial Sherriff Clarke.

Stephen A. fired back at the notion he’s friends with Clarke.
