This is a something you don’t see every day in the NHL. After what turned out to be the game winning goal by Montreal’s Artturi Lehkonen, Flames center Mikael Backlund cross-checked Canadiens Jonathan Drouin.
The part you don’t see every day is that Drouin was on the bench at the time he was checked. This sparked a heated conversation between the two benches and landed Lehkonen in the penalty box.
Things settled down and the Canadiens ended up skating away with the 3-2 win. Drouin appeared to be just fine after eating a stick and I’m sure is planning his revenge on the Flames center.
