One of many sporting casualties to COVID19, the Tokyo Olympics has been pushed back a year to 2021. With strict preparation schedules and training regimes, the postponement of the Olympics was extremely difficult for athletes and has caused significant challenges for competitors across the board. That being said, such is the Olympic spirit that the athletes will compete in 2021 hungrier than ever, and we’re sure to see some fantastic events and sporting achievements as ever, many betting sites like Topbettingsites expect the games to go ahead, despite the high levels of the virus around the world. In this post, we’re going to recommend a number of women’s sports that you should watch at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Surfing

Anyone who’s ever tuned in to surfing will know that it’s incredibly fast-paced and exhilarating to watch. Surfers ride the most extraordinary waves and compete in extreme conditions, making it fun and exciting to watch. In Japan, we can expect to see great things from the likes of four-time World Champion Carissa Moore, who has spent a large part of 2020 riding the Honolulu waves in preparation for the rescheduled Olympic games. Whoever comes out on top, you won’t be disappointed if you tune into the surfing, as you will see an exciting event that is hotly contested.

Canoeing

Another water-based sport for you to enjoy in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics is canoeing. Women’s canoeing will be making its debut at the 2021 Olympics, so if you’ve never seen canoeists in action, next year will be your perfect chance. You should watch out for 17-year old Nevin Harrison, who became the first American to win a World Championship medal in a sprint canoe event. While there are many sports to choose from, watching a sport that is debuting at the Olympics will be a memorable occurrence.

Soccer

Soccer is perhaps the most widely enjoyed spectator sport globally. Although we can enjoy soccer at many different tournaments throughout the year, it’s extraordinary as part of the Olympic games. We can get excited about seeing more from the incredibly talented US women’s national team. After their inspiring World Cup win in 2019, they will want to continue their dominance of world soccer with success at the Olympics.

Softball

Softball and baseball are exceedingly popular in Japan, and softball will be returning to the Olympic agenda for the first time since 2008 next year. Japan are the defending Olympic champions and are again amongst the favourites to receive the gold medal next year. That being said, they are facing stiff competition from several nations, with both Mexico and Australia both fancied, so we could be in for some exciting viewing when softball returns to our screens after a thirteen-year Olympic absence.

Skateboarding

Skateboarding itself is exciting, with athletes performing all sorts of tricks and jumps that defy gravity and make viewers sit there in disbelief, wondering how they are even possible. When you consider how dangerous skateboarding seems, it’s awe-inspiring to think that 12-year-old British skateboarder Sky Brown has all but sealed her qualification for the Tokyo Olympics. Despite suffering horrific injuries in a fall in the summer of 2020, Sky is hoping to be the youngest British Olympian ever, reason enough to tune into skateboarding and witness her phenomenal talent.

Tennis

A bit like soccer, you can watch tennis throughout the year at some of the most prestigious events in the sporting calendar. Yet something is scintillating about watching tennis at the Olympics, and we have seen many memorable moments on the court in past games. In 2021, we can watch the talented Naomi Osaka go for gold. Naomi’s story made headlines earlier this year when she renounced her US citizenship to compete for Japan in the home Olympics in 2021. She’s hoping her switch will be worth it, and she’ll be playing in front of packed crowds who will be cheering her on, hoping to see the first Japanese woman take home a medal in tennis.

Track and Field

Perhaps the standout events of any Olympic games is the track and field events. In 2021, so many talented women will be competing for gold across several events, and we have so much to look forward to on the track. All eyes will be on Allyson Felix of the US after a rollercoaster five years since competing in Rio. She will be looking to add to her nine Olympic medals as she competes in Tokyo in 2021.

Whichever sport you tune into, you will likely be treated to some excellent performances as athletes compete in the 2021 Olympic games.
