The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers took a step toward a potential separation on Tuesday.

Green Bay gave permission to the four-time NFL MVP permission to speak with the New York Jets, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source informed of the situation.

The due diligence signals sides could be preparing to part ways but doesn’t preclude Rodgers from ultimately deciding he wants to remain in Green Bay or just call it a career. Off the field Aaron’s relationship is also in flux. We broke the story back in January, the Green Bay Packers signal caller took things out of the friend zone with Milwaukee Bucks heiress Mallory Edens. Now it appears there’s still something going on between the two lovebirds, but nothing too serious at this point. Our source gave us the exclusive scoop on what’s up with Aaron and Mallory.

“No one from Aaron’s inner circle is taking this relationship seriously. Aaron hasn’t included Mallory in much of anything, he flys out to see her every few weeks when it’s convenient for him. She wants more, but Aaron doesn’t appear to take this relationship very seriously and doesn’t see a future. He’s bored, already.” says our source.

When asked if they are officially dating, this is what the insider had to say.

“Loosely – he considers himself single, very casual relationship. She’s more invested. Makes herself available whenever he calls.”

If the talks between Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets go well, New York and Green Bay would have to work out a trade for the future Hall of Famer. As far as what the future holds for Aaron and Mallory away from the field, it’s anyone’s guess. Rodgers is nearing 40 and still has never been married, which is pretty telling. Maybe he’s just not quite ready to settle down yet, especially now with a little more football forecast in his future.
