Miami and head coach Mario Cristobal have agreed on a new long-term extension, sources told On3’s Brett McMurphy.
Cristobal plans to make a substantial donation to the university as part of Miami’s “ongoing commitment to athletic excellence,” McMurphy adds.
Details of the contract have not been disclosed, but Cristobal is slated to receive a raise from the 10-year, $80-million contract he initially signed when he was hired in December 2021, according to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson.
The 55-year-old led Miami to the national championship game last season after victories over Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Ole Miss in the College Football Playoff. They ultimately lost to Indiana 27-21.
Cristobal holds a 35-19 record as head coach of the Hurricanes. Miami has improved its record in every season under Cristobal since going 5-7 in his first year. Last season’s 13-3 record marked the first time Miami secured 11-plus victories since the 2003 campaign.
The veteran coach joined his alma mater after a five-year run at Oregon. He spent six seasons at Florida International before landing with the Ducks. He holds a 97-79 record in 15 years as an NCAA head coach.
Miami will kick off its 2026 season against Stanford on Sept. 4.
