Common is another person who is not pleased with Travis Scott’s decision to perform at Super Bowl 53.
The rapper told TMZ that while he’s a fan of Scott’s personally, he’s not on board with the Houston rapper’s decision to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show amid his beliefs that the NFL ‘blackballed’ former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
He cited the situation surrounding Kaepernick, who began taking a knee during the national anthem in 2016 to protest against police brutality against minorities.
‘Kaepernick said he’s standing up for people who are being shot down, black and brown,’ Common told the outlet.
Kaepernick, who took the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2013, has gone unsigned the past two seasons despite injuries to multiple starting quarterbacks, and has subsequently sued the league claiming collusion against him.
‘The NFL basically blackballed him – they’ve shown how they feel about us for real,’ Common said.
He said of Scott: ‘I mean, I love Travis Scott, He’s a dope dude, but I really don’t want to support none of that stuff.
Scott has sought to bring balance to the situation with a contract demand the league donate $500,000 donation to The Dream Corps, a social justice organization presided over by CNN personality Van Jones.
