No, seriously.  This is an actual thing.

The number 7 hasn’t been worn by a member of the Washington Redskins in 34 years.  Fan favorite and former quarterback Joe Theismann was the last player to wear the number.

Rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins wore the number in college at Ohio State, and according to reports, Theismann is considering letting Haskins wear it with the Redskins.

But first, Theismann wants to sit down and talk to Haskins, via NBC Sports Washington:

“I’m anxious to sit down and talk to Dwayne about that,” Theismann said on Redskins Talk.

“I’m not opposed to it. I’m not saying yes yet, but I really want to sit down and talk to the young man and get a chance to meet him. I know he’s reached out and said he wants to ask me, so as early as I can get back into town and be able to set up an opportunity when he gets into town to be able to sit down and talk to him about it.”

I can tell Haskins right now, sitting down with Joe Theismann to talk about a jersey number isn’t going to be worth it.  The man is insane.

If Haskins can get the number without actually speaking to him, that would be the way to go.  If not, it’s just a number, there are plenty of other options that don’t require an idiotic conversation.
