John Gotti III is fighting in the “Empire State” as a professional for the first time, and people definitely know his name, or his Grandfather’s name.

The grandson of the notorious New York mobster, Gotti made a successful pro MMA debut last October at Classic Entertainment & Sports MMA 46 in Lincoln, R.I., last October, forcing opponent Johnny Adams to tap to strikes in the first round.

Gotti is next booked to fight Eddie Haws (0-1) in a welterweight bout in Westbury, N.Y. — on Long Island 18 miles east of Manhattan — at a CES show on May 4. This will not be Gotti’s first MMA appearance in New York as he logged several amateur bouts in the state before turning pro last year.

“With the incredible amount of pro talent in the New York region, opening a division there is a logical step in our East Coast expansion,” CES MMA CEO Jimmy Burchfield Jr. said in a release. “John Gotti III made his pro debut in Rhode Island back in October. Now it’s time for him to go to work at home.”

Gotti is a novelty at this point, the name will always follow him around, but at the same time it will open a few doors. If he’s a legit fighter, he should do exceptionally well with a  name like Gotti.
