The Angels held a press conference on Sunday to officially announce Mike Trout’s 12-year, $430 million extension.

During the press conference, Trout revealed that this year’s recent stagnant free agent market played a part in his decision to stay with the only team he’s ever known

Trout spoke to both Bryce Harper and Manny Machado about their experience this past off-season and decided it wasn’t worth testing the market.

“I kind of saw what Bryce and Manny went through and it drew a red flag for me. I talked to Manny and Bryce. It was a tough couple months in the offseason. They put it perspective in my mind. I obviously want to be an Angel for life. That was a big key.”

Way to go Major League Baseball, your best player is stuck on a loser.  Trout needed to test the market and he needed to leave for a winner.

The ramifications of the terrible free agent market have officially extended beyond this year.
