When we first posted about David Ortiz being shot, we didn’t have a lot of information on what happened, other than he was shot in the Dominican Republic at some sort of nightclub.

The original reports were that Ortiz was shot in the leg during a robbery attempt.  He was actually shot in the back at the Dial Bar in Santo Domingo.

Ortiz is considered to be in stable condition after undergoing hours of surgery.  Reportedly his liver was damaged in the shooting, his gall bladder and parts of his colon were removed.

Security footage from Dial Bar in Santo Domingo of Ortiz being shot has been posted on social media and it tells a different story about this being a robbery attempt.

Ortiz is shown sitting with his back to the sidewalk that is outside of the bar, that the former Red Sox star frequents.  A man walks up behind Ortiz and shoots him in the back.

It definitely doesn’t look like a robbery attempt and the police in the Dominican Republic are saying the gunshot wound Ortiz suffered is not the result of an attempted robbery.

So if not a robbery attempt, was someone trying to kill Big Papi?  It appears so.  The suspects were quickly captured and it should only be a matter of time before we find out why the shooting took place.
