Ohio State cornerback Shaun Wade was ejected in the second quarter of the Fiesta Bowl after a controversial targeting penalty for a big shot on Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Wade came on a blitz and drilled Lawrence at full speed.  The Clemson quarterback was slow to get up after the hit.  He appeared to be holding his left shoulder before making it to his feet.

The play was reviewed and targeting was called on Wade.  In slow motion you can see Wade lowers his head before delivering the hit with the crown of his helmet.

While Lawrence does lower his head too, it was the leading with th crown of the helmet that led to the ejection.  Clemson would avoid having to punt because of the call and eventually score a touchdown on the drive.
