Dana White has continued to voice that he is looking to set up the rematch between Khabib and McGregor. That is little surprise, considering It stands as the biggest event in the history of the organisation and another fight would likely hit similar numbers. Dana also said that the fight could even happen within the next year and that in a perfect world, McGregor would be the next opponent for Khabib. The question is whether this will materialise, with Khabib having stated that he is now retired. He announced his retirement following his UFC 254 victory over Justin Gaethje back in October, whilst also extending his professional record to 29 wins without defeat. That also saw him become the number one pound for pound fighter in the sport, based on the UFC rankings. It was believed he was going for 30-0 before retirement, so there may still be a small chance that Dana White can get him to fight one more time. Whether this would be against McGregor would be another task, which further adds to the unlikelihood that we will again see the pair take each other on inside the Octogen.

McGregor is now again set to return, and Dana has stated that the old Conor is back, and he is more motivated than ever. It further adds to the intrigue of the contest and it will be fascinating to see how he performs in this upcoming bout. If he produces a very impressive performance, then it could even potentially give him more leverage for the fight with Khabib. McGregor will be making his first start since his first-round stoppage of Donald Cerrone back at UFC 246 and will also be looking to extend on his professional record of 22 wins and just four defeats.

McGregor will be headlining UFC 258 in Abu Dhabi and this will see him taking on Dustin Poirier. The Irishman is going into the bout as the clear betting favourite, as he also continues to come in for support amongst fans on New Hampshire betting sites. He will also of course be looking for another victory over Poirier, following his first round TKO stoppage of him back at UFC 178 in 2014. Both fighters have clearly improved greatly since this fight and firmly established themselves as two of the leading fighters in the sport. It now sets up for a fascinating contest between the pair, with McGregor looking to impress and land odds for the fans supporting him.
